  • Attended by GFC
  • Press release on new High Level Panel of Experts on sustainable agricultural development, including livestock
  • Comments on the Zero Draft of the HLPE Report on “Sustainable Agricultural Development for Food Security and Nutrition, including the Role of Livestock”
Key policy outcomes:
  • Endorsed Framework for Action for Food Security and Nutrition in Protracted Crises
  • Endorsed recommendations on Water for Food Security and Nutrition
  • Adopted Multi-year Programme of Work for 2016-2017 (including Open-ended Working Groups on nutrition and on the SDGs)
  • Endorsed Global Strategic Framework for Food Security and Nutrition
  • Launched new areas of work, including the role of CFS in nutrition and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Contribution to overall strategy: Comments on draft HLPE report raised issues concerning smallholders and pastoralists (including land access and tenure) in the context of industrial livestock and feed sectors. This contributed to the objective of promoting rights of small-scale farmers, pastoralists and livestock keepers in the FAO, under the draft strategy on “ICCAs & Food and Agriculture Law and Policy” and to the objective of securing collective land rights under the draft strategy on “ICCAs & Land and Water Law and Policy”
