Global Forest Coalition engages in the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP

In addition to a formal exhibition space for the full two weeks inside the conference venue. On 7 November, from 9:30 – 12:00, the Coalition will conduct a Peoples Climate Summit workshop on the risks of bioenergy and other forms of large-scale biosequestration for forests and communities at the Wissenschaftzentrum (more information can be found HERE). The workshop will include introductions on the risks of geo-engineering by ETC group and the Heinrich Boell Foundation, as well as a presentation of the GFC’s new working paper on the risks of large-scale biosequestration.

On 12 November from 11:30 – 13:00, GFC will organise a side event on Climate Finance and Sustainable Land Use: The Gap between Theory and RealityThe event is co-organized by Brighter Green, Friends of the Siberian Forests and IATP and will address the impact of unsustainable livestock farming and monoculture tree plantations, the risk that climate finance will mainly support false solutions to climate change, and the need to support community conservation and the switch to balanced diets instead.

The GFC will also participate in events organised by allied constituencies, including the Women and Gender Constituency, the Indigenous Peoples Forum, Demand Climate Justice, and CLARA. We will also participate in the Climate March on the 4th with the Feminists for Climate Justice block.

The UN Climate Change Conference – November 2017 will take place November 6-17 in Bonn, Germany and will be presided over by the Government of Fiji.
