Based in Australia. Born in Nepal, Sudeep is an early career academic, currently teaching geography at Curtin University, Western Australia, while remaining affiliated with ForestAction, a Member of the ICCA Consortium in Nepal. His PhD in Social Sciences (completed in 2014 with a Vice Chancellor’s commendation) has critically discussed the ethnography of Sonaha indigenous minorities resisting conservation politics and conflicts in Bardia National Park, lowland Nepal. More broadly, Sudeep’s work deals with the political ecology of conservation, indigenous rights and customary livelihoods and has appeared in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and reports. Sudeep has been involved with the ICCA Consortium since its inception, and contributed to it by pioneering ICCA documentation, networking and advocacy in Nepal. As co-leader of Young Professionals for the IUCN Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), he contributed to the 2014 Sydney World Parks Congress. Currently, Sudeep collaborates with socio-environmental NGOs in Nepal to advance equity, human rights and social justice for all communities governing, managing and conserving their territories of life in Nepal.
