The Indigenous Circle of Experts (ICE) recently presented its report "We rise together", on achieving Pathway to Canada Target 1 through the creation of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas in the spirit and practice of reconciliation. A historic step! Read more ▸
    Snowchange has established a second ICCA in Finland. It is a 110-hectare wetland Linnunsuo, located in North Karelia. This action strengthens the capacity of local communities, hunters, bird watchers and other stakeholders to use (I)CCA as a method for conservation of significant sites in Finland. Read more ▸

      Prof. José Aylwin - ICCA Consortium Council Member, participated in the conference of the Forests Dialogue to discuss issues surrounding land reform with indigenous peoples, forestry companies, agricultural companies, development agencies and relevant government bodies. Read more ▸
        The Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) held a regional workshop from February 20-24th, 2018 with Tero Mustonen of Snowchange and ICCA Consortium Member in attendance to facilitate the description of Ecologically or Biologically Significant Marine Areas (EBSAs) in the Baltic Sea, during which the ILK and ICCAs were largely discussed. Read more ▸

          The Global Forest Coalition participated in the International Day of Forests on March 21st by producing a beautiful photo essay about people whose lives and rights are intricately linked to forests. Read more ▸
            An uplifting story of the Pradan women in India working together to stand up to poachers and stop the destruction of their forests. Read more ▸
              This paper, published by IIED and co-written by Dilys Roe - ICCA Consortium Honorary member, aims to help managers and policy makers make conservation fairer, in the belief that fairer conservation is vital for effective conservation as well as human wellbeing. Read more ▸

                News from Our Partners, Allies and Related Initiatives

                Mongabay is undertaking a special reporting project to focus specifically on the intersection of indigenous peoples and conservation to raise greater awareness of the grave threats indigenous peoples face when it comes to protecting their lands. Read more ▸
                  The IPSI Secretariat recently received a notification that nominations are now open for the 2018 MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity.  Read more ▸
