The 20th General Assembly (GA) of the ICCA Consortium will be convened virtually on Tuesday, June 4, Thursday, June 6, Tuesday, June 25, and Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 12:00 to 14:30 UTC daily. Read more ▸
In Bafoussam, Cameroon, several activities were organized to celebrate this Day under the theme of “Harmony between man and nature: community conservation, an opportunity for biodiversity”. Read more ▸
The assembly discussed at length how to make the European territories of life more visible within the relevant legal and policy frameworks. The participants also recommended establishing national-level networks and networks of territories of life linking communities speaking the same mother tongue. Read more ▸
More than 200 people, including representatives of more than 100 Member organizations, participated in the ICCA Consortium’s 19th General Assembly, which was held over four sessions in as many months. The Assembly learned about key aspects of the work carried out in 2022 and took several important decisions for the future of the association. In a special membership engagement event held in conjunction with the first session of the 2023 General Assembly, ICCA Consortium Members and Honorary members reviewed draft technical analyses and collectively discussed ideas and potential priorities for the association’s policy and advocacy work in 2023 and beyond. In July 2022, the Biocultural Festival of Morocco, organized by the Moroccan Biodiversity and Livelihoods Association (MBLA, ICCA Consortium Member), focused on sustaining territories of life and preserving farmers’ seeds and traditional culinary knowledge. It also emphasized semi-nomadic pastoralists and the Agdals’ contributions to biodiversity conservation. Read more ▸

The first regional assembly of ICCA Consortium Members in East Austronesia and the Pacific Islands helped make significant progress in the movement for the Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities’ territories of life in the region as the Members built consensus on common strategic direction and plans. On December 6, Rights and Resources Imitative, the Conservation through Reconciliation Partnership (CRP), and the ICCA Consortium—in partnership with the Canadian Research Chair in Human Rights, Health, and the Environment, Montreal International and the Christensen Fund—will co-host a pre-COP15 dialogue on Indigenous and community leadership in conservation. ICCA Consortium, in collaboration with UNDP’s Global Support Initiative for ICCAs (GSI), the GEF Small Grants Programme, and the International Support Group for the IYRP, is pleased to announce a second virtual workshop on this topic.
