The ICCA Consortium seeks to apply our values of free prior and informed consent and strong belief in self-determination in all aspects of our work, with our friends and supporters as well as our work with ICCAs.
In this way we would like to draw your attention to legislation about Data Protection that came into force in May 2018. We view this legislation as a positive step which aligns with our own values on information sharing and informed consent.
The policy below is a requirement under European Law and we are required to invite you to read it when you use our online services (website, mailing-list, discussion groups, etc).
1 Purpose of policy
We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about what information we hold about you.
Using personal information allows us to develop a better understanding of our audience and in turn to provide you with relevant and timely information about the work that we do. As an international Association needing funds to exist, it also helps us to engage with potential donors, friends, partners and supporters.
The purpose of this policy is to give you a clear explanation about how we collect and use the information we collect from you.
We use your information in accordance with all applicable laws concerning the protection of personal information. This policy explains:
- who we are;
- what data is being collected, how long it is retained, the legal basis for processing the data and
- what data processors we use;
- what your rights are and how you can contact us to make a privacy request.
2 Who we are
The ICCA Consortium is a non-profit Association under Articles 60 and following of the Swiss Civil Code (Registration Number: IDE CHE-102.619.872). We are dedicated to promoting the appropriate recognition of, and support to, ICCAs (territories and areas conserved by indigenous peoples and local communities) in the local, national and global arenas.
The Consortium is funded by its Members and receives grant support from various national and international agencies, foundations, trusts and other grant-making organisations.
3 Personally-Identifiable Information Processing
3.1 Website
Our website is located at https://www.iccaconsortium.org.
It supports HTTPS with a TLS certificate to ensure privacy and integrity of the data you are reading.
3.1.1 Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. It enables the website to remember your actions and preferences over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another.
You can control and/or delete cookies as you wish – for details, see aboutcookies.org. You can delete all cookies that are already on your computer and you can set most browsers to prevent them from being placed. If you do this, however, you may have to manually adjust some preferences every time you visit a site and some services and functionalities may not work.
Our website uses cookies in order to remember your decisions regarding website functionalities you may wish to opt in to or out from (Sections 3.1.2 and 3.1.3).
When you visit the website, a consent notice will show up to record your decision. Alternatively, if you previously consented and have now changed your mind, you can clear your cookies in your web browser.
3.1.2 Google Analytics
Our website makes use of Google Analytics to track its performance and help improve its structure and content.
The collected usage data may include your anonymised IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views and website navigation paths, as well as information about the timing, frequency and pattern of browsing. The retention for Google Analytics data on our website is 26 months. Data is shared with Google to improve their products, for benchmarking and technical support. We do NOT use their advertising features which connect your Google Account to the data collected on our website.
However, if you do not wish to be included in Google Analytics data, you can opt out when you first visit the website.
3.1.3 Flag Widget
The footer of the website includes a widget showing from which countries the visitors are browsing. This widget has been included to share the geographical diversity of our visitors.
For this widget to function, your IP address is shared with Flag Counter. As of the publishing of this privacy policy, we are satisfied that Flag Counter does not log IP addresses and does not attempt to profile visitors using their IP addresses and the different websites they visit.
However, if you do not wish to share your IP address with Flag Counter, you can opt out when you first visit the website.
3.1.4 Contact Forms
There are different contact forms available on our website. We keep a copy of submitted forms in our website database for backup and statistical purposes. Your message is also forwarded by e-mail to the relevant person, or people, in the ICCA Consortium so that they can respond to your enquiry.
These records include the submission date and time, as well as the fields you filled in. This data is not shared with any third-party. The Consortium will not use these details to subscribe you to our mailing list or discussion groups. They will only be used in the context of your initial enquiry.
3.2 MailChimp Mailing Lists
The ICCA Consortium sends regular updates to its network via a mailing list managed through MailChimp, this includes the Newsflash. Subscribers’ data is held and processed by MailChimp. When you subscribe to these Mailing Lists via our website or MailChimp, or if you send us an e-mail asking to be added, you are giving us consent to process the personal information you provided via MailChimp.
3.3 Google Group Mailing Lists
The ICCA Consortium Google Group Mailing Lists are held and processed by Google Inc. When you become an ICCA Consortium Honorary member or the representative of a Member, as announced in your welcome letter (for Members) or invitation letter (for Honorary members), you give us consent to be listed in our database and to be listed in all relevant Google Groups. As part of this, you give us consent to process the personal information you provide via Google Inc.
The ICCA Consortium maintains a number of Google Groups, based on membership categories, geographic location or interest, language spoken and other criteria. In addition, there are Google Groups for different interest groups (eg for Members and Honorary members, Partners, Secretariat, Council, etc). If you wish, you can, by simply sending an email, refuse to be listed in any of the Google Groups, ask to be taken off them, or ask to receive an abridged email which condenses several emails in one (see Contact us section below).
4 Your rights to your personal information
You have a right to request a copy of the personal information that we hold about you, to have any inaccuracies in this data corrected and to request complete erasure of your data in our systems and ourprocessors.
Please use the Contact us details at the end of this policy if you would like to exercise this right.
5 Amendments
We may update this policy from time to time by publishing a new version on our website. You should check this page occasionally to ensure you are happy with any changes to the policy. We may also notify you of significant changes to this policy by e-mail, by informing you on our website or by other means as appropriate.
