Based in Kyrgyzstan and Scotland. Marc is a conservation biologist, with a special focus on the high mountain regions and agro-pastoralist systems in western China and Central Asia. He currently serves as an Honorary Research Associate in the School of Geography and the Environment (SoGE), University of Oxford, in the UK. Marc also is the founder and director of the non-profit organization Plateau Perspectives (ICCA Consortium Member), which supports grassroots initiatives in conservation and sustainable development. With over 20 years of experience working with local communities as well as with government authorities and academia, including on ICCA and protected area issues, he serves multiples roles – including development of field-based projects, providing advice and consultancy, and (co-)authoring peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and briefs on emerging development issues. His current work includes explorations in ecotourism to advance conservation and development, social and environmental impacts and opportunities under China’s Belt & Road Initiative, and joint working with the Mountain Specialist Group of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas.
