Femy Pinto

Thematic co-representative for sustaining territories of life

Based in the Philippines, Femy represents ICCA Consortium Member NTFP-EP Asia. For the last 26 years, NTFP-EP has been promoting and supporting Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and their organizations in recognizing their customary lands and territories and sustainably managing their natural resources, especially non-timber forest products (NTFPs).

Femy has been the Director of NTFP-EP Asia since 2015. She has been dedicated to Indigenous Peoples’ rights advocacy in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia since the start of her professional life thirty years ago in Palawan Island—Pulo ng Palawan (the Philippines) during the struggles against rampant logging. This led to the mobilization and organizing of Indigenous Peoples of the island to claim their rights over their ancestral domains, sustain their customary livelihood, and protect biodiversity; it also resulted in a breakthrough environmental protection law to defend Palawan.
