Consortium activities:
  • Attended by many Consortium members, including IPACC, GFC, Gaia Foundation, and others
  • Civil society events climate justice, community conservation, bioenergy, industrial livestock and small farmers, and zero deforestation (GFC); climate change and traditional knowledge (IPACC); Yes to Life, No to Mining, and international rights of nature tribunal (Gaia Foundation)
  • Rio Conventions Pavilion Day for Indigenous and Local Communities (GEF-SGP and Equator Prize Winners)
  • Mainstream and social media coverage, e.g. blog report by Jeanette Sequiera (GFC) called “Outside COP21: real change and alternatives by and for the people” (see list of GFC’s events and blogs here)
Key policy outcomes:
Contribution to overall strategy: Activities contributed to objectives of: (1) promoting indigenous and local knowledge and practices, and broader territories, as essential to monitoring and adapting to climate change and preventing disasters; (2) understanding impacts of large-scale industrial activities and land use change on climate and ICCAs; and (3) recognition and enforcement of right to FPIC for any market-based approaches and large-scale funds, and support direct access to funds, under the draft strategy on “ICCAs & Climate Change and Energy Law and Policy”
