Member of the Council of Elders
Based in Peru. Juan is a Shipibo Konibo elder with long experience dealing with the concerns of his indigenous peoples, including issues of land titling, conflict management, extractive industries, community forest enterprises, defence of indigenous territories and resources, and promotion of intercultural bi-lingual education. Greatly respected and loved by his people, Juan has accepted to serve in many roles that involve local, regional and national responsibility – including as president of the Consejo Shipibo-Konibo y Xetebo (COSHICOX), executive director of a regional institute for the development of native communities and president of the national federation of indigenous peoples of Peru (AIDESEP). Under his leadership, COSHICOX has joined the ICCA Consortium.
