Based in Chile. Lorena is Co-Director of ICCA Consortium Member Observatorio Ciudadano, a non-profit and non-governmental organization devoted to the advocacy, promotion and documentation of human rights. Within the organization, she coordinates the Biodiversity and Alternatives to Development Programme, addressing the challenges Indigenous Peoples and local communities face in protecting their territories’ biodiversity. The programme promotes and supports the territorial defence of these communities and their own alternatives to development. Lorena served in a personal capacity as Regional Coordinator for the Andes and Southern Cone in the ICCA Consortium’s Secretariat between 2011 and 2019. As part of the regionalisation process, from 2020 to 2022 she continued her role on behalf of Observatorio Ciudadano, which assumed the regional coordination as Member organisation. Since 2023, she has been supporting the regional coordination team, now led by Karina Vargas, in the handover process.
