By Holly Jonas, ICCA Consortium Global Coordinator.

The ICCA Consortium’s delegation to the most recent UN negotiations on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework included several youth (all women!). Join us as we hear about this experience directly from youth representatives from Madagascar, Nepal and the Philippines.

The 196 Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) are negotiating an ambitious global framework to enable us – the human species – to live in harmony with nature. The second meeting of the Open Ended Working Group dedicated to developing this framework negotiated the ‘zero draft’ in Rome from 24-29 February 2020, just as COVID-19 began to take hold in Italy.

Mihanta Tsiorisoa Bakoliarimisa (Tafo Mihaavo, ICCA Consortium Member), Tenzin Samten (ICCA Network Nepal, ICCA Consortium Member) and Josefa Cariño Tauli (ICCA Consortium Honorary member) were among the hundreds of delegates at this UN meeting. In this video, they share some of their experiences with participating in the negotiations, including key issues they advocated for, their favourite moments of the week and their biggest hopes for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
