DEADLINE: 1 April 2015

The Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) and related provisions will hold its ninth meeting in early November 2015 in Montreal, Canada. In preparation for this meeting, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity is requesting contributions on the following:

  • Information and data on status and trends in traditional occupations related to conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity;
  • Information, including best practices, and views on the development of the draft voluntary guidelines to promote and enhance the repatriation of traditional knowledge relevant to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity;
  • Information on community protocols, model clauses, best practices, and practical examples for the prior informed consent for access to the knowledge, innovations and practices of indigenous peoples and local communities; and
  • Input on the in-depth dialogue on “Challenges and opportunities for international and regional cooperation in the protection of shared traditional knowledge across borders for the strengthening of traditional knowledge and the fulfillment of three objectives of the Convention, in harmony with Nature/Mother Earth”.
